LONDON, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has signed a two-year contract extension from 2027 to June 2029.

The deal also contains an option for a further season until June 2030, meaning he could play for 10 years at the Etihad Stadium.

"I am incredibly happy today. I love Manchester - it is my home now - and I love the Manchester City fans," the 28-year-old Portugal international said on the club's website.

Dias arrived from Benfica in 2020 for 65 million pounds and made an immediate impact, being named Premier League Player of the Year in his debut season.

He has won four Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup and the EFL Cup during his five years with Manchester City, and has been vital to the club's defense and ability to play the ball from the back.

"When I think about the trophies we have won and the way we have played our football during my time here, I couldn't imagine playing anywhere else," he said.

The club's director of football Hugo Viana also celebrated the news, saying Dias was "a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch." ■
