LONDON, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Leeds United has completed the signing of Switzerland striker Noah Okafor from Serie A giant AC Milan for 18 million pounds, pushing Premier League clubs' total summer spending to a record-breaking 2.37 billion pounds.
The 25-year-old has agreed a four-year contract at Elland Road, becoming Leeds' ninth addition of the summer following its promotion back to the Premier League.
Okafor, who began his career at Basel before moving to Red Bull Salzburg and then Milan in 2023, made 54 appearances for the Italian giants, scoring seven goals. He finished last season on loan at Napoli.
Speaking after the move, Okafor described the transfer as the fulfilment of a childhood dream.
"As a kid, I dreamed of playing in the Premier League. That's why for me it was quite an easy decision," he said. "My football suits the Premier League so this is like a dream come true. I can't wait to step on the field."
His arrival takes Premier League spending beyond the summer's record of 2.36 billion pounds in 2023, underlining the scale of investment in the current transfer window. ■
